Asbestos Program

Asbestos is naturally occurring minerals. Because of they are resistant to heat and corrosion, it has widely been used in products, such as insulation for pipes (steam lines for example), floor tiles, building materials, and in vehicle brakes and clutches.

Asbestos is highly regulated by both OSHA and EPA due to health hazard. Prior to a renovation project, survey needs to be conducted to identify any hazardous material such as asbestos, mercury, lead, etc. As long as asbestos-containing material (ACM) remains in good condition and is not disturbed, exposure is unlikely. Avoid disturbing asbestos containing materials when possible.

The GU Asbestos Management Program is overseen by EH&S and implemented by Facilities Services/Facilities Management.  The objectives of the GU Asbestos Management Program are:

Please contact EH&S office (7-7172), if you have any question regarding any asbestos questions and concerns in your working area.
