Autoclave Safety
All lab workers must be trained on how to operate the specific autoclave allocated to their lab before operating the autoclave for the first time. Laboratory supervisors are responsible for training and documenting the training of laboratory personnel on the specific model of autoclave they use. General operational procedures and housekeeping measures are detailed in the Georgetown University Autoclave Safety and Procedures Policy. Please watch the Autoclave Procedure Video (above), read the Autoclave Safety and Procedures Policy, and sign the Autoclave Training Documentation Form.
Never autoclave items containing corrosives, solvents, volatiles, or radioactive materials. Please reference the GU Biological Waste Flow Chart posted in the lab and/or call EH&S (7-4712) if you need additional guidance.
