Nonhuman Primate Exposure

For a nonhuman primate bite, scratch, needlestick, mucous membrane exposure, or other potential NHP exposure:

  • Immediately follow the established DCM NHP Bite/Scratch Protocol and the instructions in the NHP Bite and Scratch Kit.
  • Notify your supervisor, the DCM Veterinarian, and Occupational Health immediately.
  • Seek immediate medical evaluation through the Emergency Department or other designated medical provider.
  • Bring the applicable B virus/Macacine herpesvirus 1 exposure protocol to the treating healthcare provider, if available.
  • Complete all required injury and incident documentation.
