Vaccinations and Immunity

Certain job duties and workplace exposures may require vaccination, immunity documentation, or review by Occupational Health. Requirements are based on assigned duties, anticipated occupational exposure, applicable University programs, and medical review.

Hepatitis B Vaccination

Georgetown University makes the hepatitis B vaccination series available at no cost to employees whose job duties involve reasonably anticipated occupational exposure to human blood or other potentially infectious materials.

Eligible employees are offered vaccination after required bloodborne pathogens training and within 10 working days of initial assignment, unless the employee has already completed the series, testing documents immunity, or vaccination is medically contraindicated.

Employees with occupational exposure must complete the Hepatitis B Vaccination Acceptance or Declination Form. An employee who initially declines the vaccine may later request vaccination while continuing to perform duties covered by the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.

If you would like to request a Hepatitis B Vaccination contact Occupational Health at occupationalhealth@georgetown.edu. After reviewing requests, Occupational Health will confirm eligibility and coordinate vaccination or refer the employee to an appropriate vaccine clinic or provider.

Tetanus and Tdap

Tetanus or Tdap vaccination documentation may be requested based on job duties, animal contact, injury risk, or participation in an applicable medical surveillance program.

If you would like to request a Tetanus/Tdap contact Occupational Health at occupationalhealth@georgetown.edu. Occupational Health will review submitted information and notify the individual if additional documentation or follow-up is needed.

Measles, Mumps, and Rubella Immunity

Individuals who work with or require access to nonhuman primate areas may be required to provide documentation of measles immunity. Acceptable documentation may include MMR vaccination records or laboratory evidence of immunity. Employees should submit MMR Immunity Documentation to employeeimmunizations@georgetown.edu.Occupational Health will review the documentation and notify the individual if additional information or follow-up is required.

Upcoming Vaccine Clinics

Georgetown University Public Health coordinates and conducts University vaccine clinics. Occupational Health may refer eligible employees to an available clinic based on occupational requirements, vaccine availability, and the employee’s job duties or potential exposures.

Important Information

Submitting a request does not automatically establish eligibility or guarantee that a vaccine will be provided directly through Occupational Health. Occupational Health will review the request and provide instructions based on the applicable occupational health requirement and available services.

For personal vaccinations that are not required because of University job duties or occupational exposure, employees should contact their primary care provider, pharmacy, or another community vaccination provider.
