Procurement of Biological Materials
Laboratory personnel receiving biological materials for research or instructional purposes must comply with applicable university, state, and federal regulations governing the type and quantity of materials that may be acquired and possessed.
Regulatory requirements vary depending on the material and its potential hazard. Certain biological agents and toxins may require a federal permit, license, or registration prior to acquisition or use. Investigators are responsible for ensuring appropriate approvals are in place before materials are ordered or transferred. Georgetown University laboratories are not authorized to possess Risk Group 4 (RG-4) agents.
